FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEaM Camp Goes Virtual but Plans for Students’ Safety Kansas City, Mo. On Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m., parents and students will be driving through the aSTEAM Village parking lot to pick up camp activity kits for their sixth annual Summer Engineering Experience for Kids Summer Camp. This eight-week summer STEaM camp for kids grades 3 through 12 enables learners to explore the world of robotics, video game design, rocketry, race car engineering, alternative energy and many more science, technology, energy, arts and math challenges.

The camp includes hands-on activities, fun instruction, competitions, virtual field trips, and interaction with industry professionals, all led by 17 college students from around the country as well as two high school students and one middle school student from the Kansas City area. Participating students come not only from the Kansas City region but also from as far away as Chicago and Ghana.

In addition, local students also will receive a backpack, courtesy of Pitney Bowes, and face shields and masks, made possible through the Get Green Resources Foundation. While the camp is virtual, aSTEAM Village is providing the personal protective equipment for students to use in the upcoming school year and so that City of Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recs on- site locations, such as the Hillcrest Community Center, can provide participants safety equipment for their use beyond the camp.

Get Green Resources has been donating a portion of profits from their face mask sales in 51 Kansas City-area Price Chopper stores to area charities. Iveth Jalinsky, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, said they were inspired to provide the PPE to aSTEAM Village “because now more than ever, we need to help each other without boundaries.”

This summer camp has been an on-ramp for year-round STEaM learning for many students who have gone on to lead championship robotics and race teams. aSTEAM Village is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides STEM learning for K-12 students.
